Tasks and Responsibilities
The Directorate of Accreditation and Licensing in the Secretariat General of the Higher Education Council. The Directorate scrutinizes and reviews the applications from Private Higher Education Institutions and accomplishes relevant tasks as assigned.
The Directorate of Accreditation and Licensing carries out many tasks in collaboration with other departments and units in the Secretariat General of the Higher Education Council, which are:
- Follow up and review licensing applications to establish new higher education institutions (HEIs), which are submitted through the Sijilat portal: www.sijilat.bh. Moreover, the directorate coordination with relevant authorities, such as those concerned in the education sector in Bahrain’s Economic Development Board (EDB) and in the Education & Training Quality Authority (BQA).
- Review requests to create and host programs that were not included in the license.
- Review all academic program amendments and study plans for the licensed programs.
- Review modifications and additions to buildings and facilities of private higher education institutions.
- Study all memorandums of understanding and agreements between private higher education institutions and foreign academic and training institutions.
- Coordination with the Academic Accreditation Committee of the Higher Education Council within the scope of the Directorate responsibilities.
- Coordination with the relevant directorates in the Training and Education Quality Authority within the scope of the Directorate responsibilities.
- Follow up on institutional and program accreditations issued to higher education institutions.
