Tasks and Responsibilities

The Research and Policies Directorate aims to advance scientific research outcomes in higher education institutions by overseeing scientific research and postgraduate studies. It is also tasked with preparing studies and benchmarks related to higher education and scientific research, developing policy proposals and regulatory decisions, and reviewing the institutional policies and regulations accordingly. Additionally, the directorate reviews and prepares Memorandums of Understanding, cooperation agreements and executive plans between the Kingdom of Bahrain and other countries in the field of higher education and scientific research.

The directorate is responsible for monitoring and analyzing data on scientific publishing and postgraduate studies in higher education institutions, updating the higher education and scientific research database at the General Secretariat of the Higher Education Council, and preparing statistical reports for decision-makers and local, regional and international bodies. It also implements initiatives and programs to promote a culture of scientific research and innovation to enhance research capabilities within higher educational institutions.
